The joint venture company Suchel TBV S.A., one of the enterprises operating in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), plans to resume selling powdered detergent in February. Currently, they have the necessary raw materials available to start the packaging process, and are finalizing the last details related to this process.
Since late 2021, the company has been operating its packaging lines in a temporary facility within ZEDM, which has enabled them to deliver up to 72 tons of goods per week to the Cimex and Tiendas Caribe chains. These deliveries have contributed to the supply of goods to the western region of the country, specifically to the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Havana.
In December last year, they had to dismantle the packaging machines to reinstall them at the new factory.
According to Isabel Martínez Ramírez, Deputy General Manager of Suchel TBV S.A., the assembly process of the modern factory is in its final stage, and the start-up is planned for the first quarter of this year.
The factory has the capacity to produce up to 70,000 tons of powdered detergent and 20,000 tons of liquid detergent annually, she said. The factory plans to gradually increase production until it reaches the planned output level. Raw materials will be provided to ensure production, which will gradually increase according to market demand.
“We need to be very careful when starting operations” she emphasized, stating that the main goal is to ensure every part of the factory operates efficiently, is used correctly, and meets all requirements. Additionally, in the initial stage, there is a need to focus on the internal systems of the new factory, ensuring proper operation, as well as effectively utilizing new technologies and techniques. That’s why employee training will be ongoing and closely monitored.
People will have the opportunity to buy new products like dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, floor cleaner, and fabric softener. We anticipate that these new products will swiftly stabilize the market. Supermarkets will be in charge of distributing and promoting the products, and they will actively assess customer demand to determine how to market them in each area.
